It has already been a tremendous campaign for the former Melbourne Victory man with an Asian Champions League campaign, a Socceroos call up and his individual accolade at this week's A-League awards.

It's all a far cry from the days of picking up splinters at former club Victory and although never doubting his own ability, Galekovic admits Vidmar took a punt when they swooped for him last season.

He told au.fourfourtwo.com: "We had the aim of finishing in the top two and we achieved that. We did it the hard way as well, what with the Asian Champions League and Club World Championship.  But we did it and now we head into finals football."

Galekovic has thrived since swapping Telstra Dome for Hindmarsh Stadium and he has earned plaudits aplenty during the course of a tremendous campaign.

He said: "For me (moving to Adelaide) was kind of an easy decision. I needed to play games and to do that I had to leave Melbourne Victory.

"Adelaide gave me a chance and I have to thank Viddie and the coaching staff a lot because they maybe took a risk in that I didn't play that many games at Melbourne and they didn't know what they were up for.

"I can't thanks them enough for that and now I want to go on and help bring the title to the club. Hopefully I've already repaid them but I want to keep on repaying them."

As for this weekend's first leg against his old club, Galekovic is not concerned that Adelaide failed to get the better of Ernie Merrick's side on all three occasions during the regular season.

He said: "They beat us three times but that's gone now. Finals football is a different story.

"It's over two legs and we want to get a good result at home to put the pressure really on them when we go to Melbourne. It's going to be an interesting two legs."
