We take a look at some of the emerging talent to watch out for this season.

DANKO LAZOVIC (PSV EINDHOVEN, STRIKER) Much-travelled 24-year-old Serbian striker who finally seems set to deliver on his potential after short, unsuccessful spells with Feyenoord and Bayer Leverkusen.

IBRAHIM AFELLAY (PSV EINDHOVEN, MIDFIELDER) A sprightly, clever midfielder of Moroccan descent but Dutch nationality, 21-year-old Afellay is most effective in an advanced midfield position but comfortable wide on the right.

ALBERTO AQUILANI (ROMA, MIDFIELDER) Italian international with a growing reputation largely due to his habit of scoring long-range goals. The Roma midfielder, however, has more than one string to his bow and is a tenacious but skilful midfield all-rounder.

NERY CASTILLO (SHAKHTAR DONETSK, FORWARD) Hugely exciting Mexican talent who disappointed many admirers by inexplicably opting to join Shakhtar Donetsk from Olympiacos, rather than a top club in a major league.

MARIO GOMEZ (STUTTGART, STRIKER) German champions Stuttgart will rely on goals from last season's Bundesliga player of the year on their return to the Champions League.

NIKOLA ZIGIC (VALENCIA, STRIKER) It will be difficult not to notice the Serbian striker, who is half an inch taller than 6ft 7ins Peter Crouch. He has a bit of bulk and a lot of talent to back it up, too, and could make a real impact alongside David Villa.

DENILSON (ARSENAL, MIDFIELDER) The next big thing to roll off Arsene Wenger's incredible production line of talent. The teenage Brazilian has impressed when given the opportunity and could become a prominent first-team player this year.

GIOVANI DOS SANTOS (BARCELONA, STRIKER) Comparisons to Ronaldinho are lazy but the Mexico international, who has already broken into the Barca first team, has genuine talent behind the hype.

ANGEL DI MARIA (BENFICA, FORWARD) One of the gems to emerge from Argentina's Under-20 World Cup triumph in the summer, Di Maria joined Benfica soon after the tournament. Fellow youngster Freddy Adu may get the media attention, but versatile forward Di Maria could make more of an impact.

DAVID SUAZO (INTER MILAN, STRIKER) The oldest player on this list, Honduras international Suazo joined Inter from Cagliari in the summer after a battle for his signature with city rivals AC Milan. His explosive pace and strength are well suited to Champions League football.

JEREMY TOULALAN (LYON, MIDFIELDER) Former Nantes youngster who settled quickly into the Lyon midfield. A good runner and passer of the ball who poses a threat with the ball at his feet.

SAMIR NASRI (MARSEILLE, MIDFIELDER) Landed with the responsibility of filling the void left by Franck Ribery's departure, the 20-year-old French midfielder of Algerian background was last year's Ligue 1 young player of the year and has vision and intelligence beyond his years.

SEVILLA Too many to mention individually. Daniel Alves really is as good as the hype suggests, but it is also worth looking out for Jesus Navas, Alexander Kerzhakov, Adriano, Renato, Christian Poulsen, Seydou Keita, Alfaro, Luis Fabiano and young defender Federico Fazio.
