English Premier League strugglers Wigan Athletic were dumped out of the FA Cup by League Two outfit Swindon Town on Saturday.
As the third round of the competition continued, Wigan, who are second-bottom in the top-flight, travelled to the County Ground to face a Swindon side who had lost just once in their last 18 matches.
And that run continued despite Callum McManaman giving Wigan the lead after 35 minutes.
Alan Connell equalised five minutes later for Paulo Di Canio's side before substitute Paul Benson bagged a 76th minute winner.
Bolton, who are one spot above Wigan, were forced to a replay by Macclesfield Town of League Two after a 2-2 draw.
Owen Coyle's side needed a David Wheater equaliser with 13 minutes left to even salvage a draw after goals from Colin Daniel and Arnaud Mendy from Macclesfield had them on the verge of a shockwin.
Newcastle United came from behind to beat Blackburn Rovers 2-1 in the only all-Premier League tie of the day, with Hatem Ben Arfa and Jonas Gutierrez scoring for the winners while Tottenham cruised to a 3-0 home success over Cheltenham Town of League Two.
Spurs boss Harry Redknapp fielded a relatively strong side and was rewarded as Jermain Defoe and Roman Pavlyuchenko scored before the half-time break to seal victory before Giovani Dos Santos wrapped up the win three minutes from time.
American Clint Dempsey scored a hat-trick in Fulham's 4-0 win over League One table-toppers Charlton Athletic and John Heitinga and Leighton Baines were on the scoresheet for Everton in their 2-0 triumph against Conference outfit Tamworth.
West Bromwich Albion and Swansea City notched 4-2 wins over Championship sides, beating Cardiff City and Barnsley respectively, while Norwich City beat Burnley 4-1.
A 10-man QPR bagged a late equaliser in a 1-1 draw at Milton Keynes Dons, with Heidar Helguson's late goal earning Neil Warnock's side a replay while Stoke City scored three times in 15 minutes to beat Gillingham 3-1.
Upsets occurred at Reading, where League One Stevenage won 1-0, while Notts County, who are also in the third tier, beat Championship strugglers Doncaster 2-0 in South Yorkshire.
Other notable results saw Blackpool thump Fleetwood Town of the Conference 5-1, with Matt Phillips scoring a hat-trick, while Middlesbrough beat Shrewsbury Town 1-0 and local derbies between Birmingham City and Wolves and Leicester City and Nottingham Forest ended goalless.
Championship leaders Southampton came from behind to win 2-1 at Coventry, Derby County edged Crystal Palace 1-0 and Conference side Wrexham earned a replay against Brighton and Hove Albion after they came from behind to draw 1-1.
In Saturday's late game, Aston Villa recorded a comfortable 3-1 win over League Two side Bristol Rovers at Memorial Stadium.
Marc Albrighton, Gabriel Agbonlahor and Ciaran Clark were on the scoresheet for Alex McLeish’s Premier League side, while Scott McGleish hit an 88th-minute consolation for the hosts.
Rovers are winless in the league since October and sacked manager Paul Buckle on Tuesday, and McGleish had a penalty saved by Brad Guzan in stoppage time as their woes continued.
