NORTH Queensland Fury boss Ian Ferguson said David Williams' first A-League goal in the 1-0 triumph over Perth Glory was richly deserved for all his hard work.
Williams headed the only goal of Friday night's encounter to get the club back on the winning trail and to a first home clean sheet of the season.
Fury dominated the first half with twelve shots on goal, endless corners and came close to opening the scoring on several occasions before Williams' goal and should have lead by more than one at the break.
Ferguson expressed his joy at Williams opening his account. "I'm delighted for him, he has worked ever so hard, and tonight he has got us a winner," said the Fury coach.
Despite the missed opportunities the match-winner was full of adulation for his teammates.
"We gave it our all and we stuck in there so that is all that counts," said Williams.
Glory rarely threatened the home side in the opening half with centre-back pairing of Matt Smith and Rostyn Griffiths ensuring that Socceroo striker Mile Sterjovski was tightly marked.
Ferguson was full of praise for his two centre-backs who rose to the challenge he set them before the game.
"I told them at the beginning Mile is an international player and for them to go out and be recognised in the A-League these are the kind of players that you need to go out and play well against," Ferguson added.
