Glory owner Tony Sage was meant to meet with Fowler in London over the weekend but was unable to fly to Europe as a result of the Icelandic volcano air disruptions.

As a result, Sage tabled an offer to him over the phone and the club will know by later this week whether the 35-year-old has agreed.

And Ferguson is hopeful of bringing the star striker to ME Bank Stadium despite their tempestuous relationship in Townsville.

The rumours of friction between the two came to a head when Ferguson dropped Fowelr to the bench - and Fowler instead watched the match from the stands.

But Ferguson says the rumours of a rift were simply gossip by trouble-makers and he'd love to work with Fowler again at Glory.

"We can try to get Robbie Fowler there, it would give us a good partnership up front," he said. "He got me nine goals last season playing for the Fury, playing some good stuff for us.

"I do believe if we can get Robbie in the right frame of mind and get him over here, he will be a great plus for us."

Ferguson insists his relationship with Fowler is solid and would not prevent him coming to Glory.

"Me and Robbie are fine. I've spoken to Robbie over the last month or so about four or five times," he said.

"A lot of people with hidden agendas made us out to be at each other's throats and that was never the case. Myself and Robbie have always had respect.

"Robbie knew I was a head coach, (I) made some decisions, (he) probably didn't agree with them but he respected it and went on and it was never held in any shape or form in any bad malice.

"I've always said it and I keep repeating myself, there's nothing wrong with me and Robbie Fowler, there never has been."

Perth's hopes of signing Fowler were given a boost yesterday by the FFA confirmation of a shake-up to the A-League marquee system, allowing both an Australian marquee and an international one.

The stumbling block for Perth has been that the club already has a marquee player in Socceroo Mile Sterjovski, who is paid outside the salary cap, and the club simply could not fit Fowler's reported $750,000-per-year wage under its salary restrictions.

But the introduction of the new system, where A-League clubs can have one Australian marquee on their books as well as another marquee player of any nationality, could allow  Sage to bring Fowler to Perth.
