The doom and gloom merchants were swift to pounce when Gold Coast United, this weekend's opponents, crushed Fury 5-0 in round two.

Some critics used that defeat as a measure of Fury's season ahead. However, it is Gold Coast that go into this weekend's clash licking their wounds after a 6-0 thumping by Wellington Phoenix. In contrast, Fury are coming off three draws and a first win at home.

Ferguson said his side's initial encounter with Gold Coast was a turning point for the club and hasn't let any of the players forget ahead of the second meeting between the clubs on Saturday night.

"We've never stopped talking about it (the defeat) since it happened," Ferguson said. "I'll keep drumming it in and letting them know that feeling, how low we were,  and I don't think we'll be there again this season."

Fury's confidence is sky-high after scoring a 2-1 win at home against Perth Glory and even though Ferguson is keeping a tight rein on the enthusiasm flowing from the victory, he's also comfortable with the mood of the squad.

"There's people keep mentioning about confidence but confidence has never wavered here. Its always been good," Ferguson said. "We got beat in one game where we deserved to get kicked up the backside."

Fury haveonly been beaten twice since the last time they met Gold Coast and have added six draws and two wins to their season tally.

Chris Grossman wasn't part of the Fury team which was beaten at Skilled Park at the start of the season, but he said the pain of that defeat has been shared amongst the entire roster.

He knows how important it is for Fury to maintain their current form as any of the players who travelled to Skilled Park in round two.

"Everyone in the squad was hurting then," Grossman said. "It impacted everyone in the squad and everyone in the squad this weekend will go down and try and prove that result was a one-off.

"I think everybody has seen how much we've progressed from then and  we'll just be looking to build on the win. We've raised the bar amongst ourselves and we want to improve every week and I think this week will be another expectation that we can lift again."

Grossman said the home ground victory over Perth has added some spark to the team's preparation this week.

He added: "Much better feeling in the camp this week, especially after a win at home and getting the hoodoo off our back.

"Hopefully we can build on this in the Gold Coast this week."
