Fury stunned their opponents with an early David Williams goal, before Joel Porter equalised, only for Terry Cooke to grab a late winner.

The victory was deserved for the hosts who celebrated in front of their second best home crowd up at Dairy Farmers Stadium for the season.

Ferguson's men certainly finished the season on a high, playing some good football, whilst keeping Gold Coast's guns quiet.

" We tried to compact the space... We gave them the space for the first 20 minutes but once we got it back, that's when I felt the momentum was changing," Ferguson said.

The North Queensland gaffer was also full of praise for retiring veteran Robbie Middleby, who was substituted in the second-half to a standing ovation.

"We'll miss him, he brings that drive and determination. Hopefully he has rubbed off on all of the boys," Ferguson added.

The scorer of the opening goal, Williams, also revealed his teammates believed they had plenty to play for despite their finals hopes being over before the match started.

"We had something to play for there, the effort that the boys put it was the same as the whole season, we just came out on top tonight," he said.
