The newly launched A-League franchise is set to unveil their new coach this Friday in Townsville.

And while Socceroo assistant Graham Arnold is still in the mix for perhaps another role at the club, it appears these two have pole position as the club's new gaffer.

NQ FC technical director Blair Burke will make the final call on the job. The final interviews were done today in Townsville.

Don Matheson told au.fourfourtwo.com that Ferguson and Stubbins have excellent credentials for the post.

"Right now, I can't split them," the NQ FC supremo said. "They are both outstanding and have earnt the right."

It's understood that the club did speak to one overseas applicant but have settled on the two current assistants at the Mariners (Ferguson) and the Reds (Stubbins).

And Matheson confirmed that Queenslanders such as Wayne Srhoj are on their hit-list of players. "We really do want to bring Queenslanders back home to play for a Queensland club and Wayne is someone we're definitely looking at."

The Mareeba-born midfielder has spent the last four years in Romania but the 26-year-old ex Brisbane Striker in the NSL has been linked with A-League clubs since splitting from FC Timisoara this year.

North Queensland is also in the final stages of signing off on some of the FFA's final requirements for the franchise licence. This should take a couple of weeks, said the club.

In other news, NQ FC is not planning on running an A-League youth team or a W-League team in year one of the club.
