NORTH Queensland Fury boss Ian Ferguson has hailed David Williams' early impact for the club but warned against expecting too much of him.
Williams was impressive as Fury recorded a 1-0 win over Brisbane Roar on Sunday and the coach was delighted with the loan man's contribution.
But he is also anxious to prevent too much hype building up and stressed that he was not yet the finished article.
"People have to remember he's only a young boy and I don't want too much expectation put on him," said Ferguson. "I think he was labelled the next Harry Kewell
"But he's a quality player and works very hard off the ball for the team which is great. There's plenty of promise there."
Marquee striker Robbie Fowler put in a 60 minute shift and Ferguson was happy with the progress being made towards a full shift.
"(He had) 35 minutes one game, 45 the next, an hour there so we'll keep building him up. I'm sure he'll be there at the start of the season for us," he said.
The coach feels the last few games have seen his plans begin to come together after a difficult start to pre-season.
He added: "We've been through a lot of rocky roads, we've had some poor results but I've always maintained that I've never really had the players I wanted.
"Always a lot of triallists and injuries. It's great to see the hard work we've put in is now starting to pay off. The last four games I've been really really pleased with."
