The program will identify newly qualified referees in an effort to make them instantly recognisable to players, coaches and spectators.

The aims of the program are to:

- Raise awareness and increase the recognition and support of new officials;

- Reduce pressure and abuse; and

- Create a culture of support for new officials through the education of players, spectators, coaches and the media.

The recruitment and retention of referees into the game is critical to its ongoing success and this new initiative will play an important part in that objective.

“If players, coaches and spectators can make new referees comfortable by providing a supportive environment, we are more likely to keep them coming back year after year,” said Mr. Garry Chandler, CEO Football West.

Clubs can assist by distributing promotional material such as posters and wristbands, which are available for collection from the Football West Office in Maylands.
