Match of the Week
Cockburn City vs. Armadale
Cockburn City has been one of the surprise packets of the 2007 Football West Premier League season and they will be looking to continue their rich vein of form against an improving Armadale in the Match of the Week at Dalmatinac Park this Saturday, 7 July at 3.00pm.
Cockburn currently sits third on the ladder, only a game away from second placed Perth S.C and with plenty of football remaining, Cockburn will be confident of securing a top two finish. Their results speak for themselves with only two losses this season at the hands of the League’s two best sides, Floreat and Perth. Young striker Josh Kamasz has been a revelation for the club with his scoring spree and after his latest hat-trick against Swan I.C; he is now becoming one of the most feared strikers in the League.
Although Armadale has only one win on the board (3-2 against Swan I.C), their form of recent weeks has been pleasing for Coach Billy Russell with their latest 4-3 loss to Inglewood, confident signs that the team are starting to find the back of the net. Their defence has been tight all season, holding a number of clubs to scoreless draws however they will need to add to their goal tally if they are to make any progress up the ladder. Ryan Pearson and Scott Devine could be the pair to help their cause and they will need to be firing all cylinders if Armadale are to come away with a result from Dallies Park.

Match of the Week
Bayswater City vs. South West Phoenix
A desperate Bayswater City side meets South West Phoenix in the Football West State First Division on Saturday, July 7 at Frank Drago Reserve.
Much was expected of the once mighty Bayswater City club entering the 2007 season. Those expectations remain far from fulfilled with Bayswater out of the promotion picture in eighth. There early season struggles saw Coach Gerry Wardle replaced by assistant Willie Hird, but the change at the top has made little difference, with the star-studded side seeing little improvement. Key off-season acquisitions Adrian Sutton, Gianni Papalia, Ryan Frisina and Kevin Carmona were expected to compliment top level existing players such as Sal Marapodi and Damir Kudozevic nicely and City find themselves at the wrong end of the table at the halfway mark of the season. Promotion to the Premier League for 2008 is now almost certainly out of the picture, but Bayswater will want to add some respectability to their 2007 results before the season ends.
Bunbury-based South West Phoenix have seen a major turnaround in fortunes recently. The Phoenix suffered a nightmare campaign last year but have improved dramatically and sit sixth on the ladder 11 rounds into the season. New coach Mickie Cairns has transformed the team into a well-oiled outfit. The mixture of youth and experience has proved reasonably successful so far, and the Phoenix will be looking to build on their impressive start with a win against Bayswater.

Spearwood Dalmatinac vs. Stirling Panthers
Spearwood Dalmatinac host Stirling Panthers in a rematch of last year’s championship playoff in The Loans Café Amateur Premier League on Sunday, July 8 at Dalmatinac Park (3.00pm). It was Spearwood who claimed the 2006 title in a 6-0 thrashing over Stirling. The Panthers will certainly be out for revenge following their humiliation, which failed to reflect Stirling’s quality over the entire season.
Bruno Serra’s Stirling side have been largely disappointing in 2007, currently sitting ninth on the combined league table with just 12 points from their 10 games. Stirling don’t lack firepower up front as they have the third highest goal tally in the league, but defensively they have struggled, conceding 25 goals so far this season. The Panthers know that they need to turn things around quickly, as they sit just 2 points above the dreaded relegation zone.
Similar to Stirling, Spearwood Dalmatinac have done well in attack so far, having scored 20 goals from 10 games, but defensively they have also been poor, conceding 28 goals already. Following the off-season departures of star strikers David Palin and Damien Pescud most thought that it would be the Spearwood defense that carried the side, but it has been a complete reversal so far. The Dallies have won 3 of their last 4 leagues games, which has sparked hopes of a revival from the southern suburbs side. Similar to Stirling however, a quick turnaround is required as they to face a tough fight to avoid relegation.

Match of the Week
Queens Park vs. Northern Redbacks
Third place Northern Redbacks travel to play unbeaten League leaders Queens Park in round 11 of the Smarter than Smoking Women’s Premier League at Coker Park.
This is sure to be one of the biggest tests for Queens Park who have been in terrific form scoring goals at will (42 goals to date). Much of their dominance has streamed from the form of Stacey Learmont, the Leagues current top scorer with 15 goals and Lisa Higgins, second on the scorers chart with nine. However, this is more than just a high scoring side, with just four goals conceded all season.
The Redbacks are going to need to bounce back to form after their loss in the Cup to East Fremantle. Until then they had been on a solid unbeaten run that had seen them jump to third in the table. Expect the Redbacks to be up for this one with a pack forming just behind them in the League and a win possibly setting them up for a strong finish to the season.
In other matches this weekend Beckenham play bottom placed Kingsley, Balcatta have a tricky home game against UWA, East Fremantle travel to Mandurah and Noranda host Subiaco United.
