The multicultural community football program Outreach for Diversity has entered an exciting new phase, thanks particularly to sponsorship from Smarter than Smoking, the Department of Sport and Recreation and assistance from Football West.

Teams from Football West clubs East Fremantle, Hamersley Rovers, Belmont and Forrestfield United accepted invitations to visit Gibbney Reserve recently to play friendly matches against teams from the United Maylands Junior Football Club. The success of United Maylands so far has shown that the participants newly learned skills and strong friendships with their teammates has moved perfectly with them onto the pitch in their friendly matches.

United Maylands Junior Football Club welcomes other children (currently age five to 15) from the local area and especially from backgrounds of emerging communities to visit Gibbney Reserve each Saturday afternoon (winter season) from 3.00pm to join the fun!

The Club offers its 50-plus members participation opportunities, a feel for what it is like to play for a Club in the regular home and away season, and development opportunities with accredited coaches. Additionally, one member of the Club has progressed through to the latter stages of trials for the Western Australian U14 State Team and has been selected to attend the State Development Camp at Wesley College in July.

The CaLD program is currently expanding into additional areas of Perth, the City of Stirling, City of Rockingham and another venue south of the river. For further information please visit www.footballwest.com.au.
