ADELAIDE United hope to heal the bitter rift with the Aloisi clan by offering Socceroo striker John a place in the squad...but only for six weeks.
The club fell out with their hometown hero after Ross Aloisi was axed at the end end of last season in the fallout from February's 6-0 grand final defeat against Melbourne.
John Aloisi had been widely tipped to join the club as their marquee striker when his contract expired at Spanish club, Alaves.
The striker had desperately wanted to see out his career playing alongside his brother for the Reds.
But the sacking of Ross ended that dream and created a bitter rift between the Aloisis and the club.
Now though Adelaide coach Aurelio Vidmar hopes to call a truce and offer John a short term contract to plug the gap in his attack after Bruce Djite was injured.
Vidmar will offer Aloisi - currently without a club after a possible deal with Sydney fell through - a six week slot in the squad as replacement cover for Djite.
"It doesn't hurt," Vidmar told the Adelaide Advertiser. "No one is in or out of the picture. It's not a closed shop with anyone.
"For someone like John, it's not going to be too easy or a pretty picture. You'd want to sign someone like him for a year or two."
Adelaide's current returning Socceroo striker, Paul Agostino, is still out for at least another two weeks after a troubled return to fitness at the club.
"He still had a bit of fluid in his calf," Vidmar said. "Even two weeks after he did it, he wasn't comfortable with it.
"There's a bit of pain there and he had to have a little scan to make sure nothing was there and we found a slight tear."
The club have also welcomed back former defender Kristian Rees who, like Ross Aloisi, was surprisingly released by Adelaide at the end of last season.
He's been called back to trial as a possible season-long replacement for Michael Valkanis who's out with a cruciate ligament tear.
Vidmar told the Advertiser: "We've got Reesy coming in and another fellow from Melbourne, we'll have a look at then make a decision.
"Milan Susak still deserves a chance as well.
"The good thing about what's happened is that we can just sit back a have a good look at half a dozen people."
He said Rees - who has been playing well with Whittlesea Zebras in the VPL - is their first choice for the fill-in role, and added: "In terms of conditioning, he should be in peak condition.
"It was no surprise to me that he had a very good season."
