BILLED AS… Mario Jardel's A-League debut.

IN REALITY… Super Mario started on the bench and didn't trundle on till the 70th minute and the big Brazilian's cameo was fairly uneventful - apart from a stunning chest-then-flick over Costanzo's head. That was the sideshow. The main event saw the Jets weather the early storm, ride their luck and find a Bridge capable of seizing the moment.

THE GOOD… Australia's younger stars were the real substance to this clash. Kris Sarkies was inventive while his Reds teammate Bruce Djite was a constant threat upfront (who said he could only play alongside Burns?). For the Jets, pacy Tarek Elrich plugged the leaky right side when he arrived as an early sub and the next Jets superstar Mark Bridge did the business when it mattered. All done in front of another decent crowd, too.

THE BAD… Adelaide's finishing: Ange Costanzo's second half header from right in front the Mack Daddy of a litany of fluffed attempts.

THE UGLY… The Jets are far from the fantasy football of last year's Carle/Milton-inspired model, but they are giving what coach GVE said he wanted – a side that can grind out a win when necessary.

THEY SAID WHAT… Mark Bridge: "I've had a bit of a drought, but I scored for the Olyroos midweek and scored a goal here... couldn't ask for a better week. It wasn't the prettiest of the games. But credit to the boys and also our defence. It's a good win." New Adelaide captain Paul Agostino said: "We were punished for not taking our chances.”

THE FALLOUT… Adelaide now has a second tricky trip in as many weeks when they visit the rejuvenated Wellington. As for the Jets, a chance to knock off the reigning champions at home.
