Not content with fielding two former Socceroos in Craig Foster and Francis Awaritefe, SBS pulled out the big names with Mr Football himself Les Murray, and presenters David Basheer, Mariana Rudan and Scott McIntyre also pulling on the Dutch shirts provided by Nike.

However it was the FourFourTwo team in Portuguese livery, led by editor Paul Hansford, publisher Andy Jackson, and Full90 editor Jack “Showboat” Snape, that made the early running with a Total Football demonstration. FourFourTwo raced to a 4-1 lead before “Fozzie” and Francis raised the intensity and had the broadcasters right back in the match.

What followed was a spirited second half struggle that saw Murray and Basheer both shed blood for the SBS cause. The fact that the good guys at FourFourTwo emerged triumphant 6-4 courtesy of a generous final minute Basheer own goal, was lost in a haze of post-match jugs of beer and wedges.
