ROBBIE Fowler revealed after North Queensland's 1-0 win over Sydney that the fan who ran onto the pitch to congratulate him on his goal attended the same school as him in England.
After the striker's stunning goal in the 53rd minute, Fowler was mobbed by teammates. Many fans at the stadium were wearing the red of Liverpool in honour of the former Anfield legend and one breached security to run onto the SFS and congratulate the Fury marquee.
Fowler laughed off the incident and explained what was said by the fan before he was hauled off the pitch by security.
"He was actually from my school. I didn't know him to be honest. I used to go to a school in Liverpool called Nugent and he was telling me he was from there, said Fowler, much to the amusement of the media," Fowler said.
"There are obviously better places we could've done it. We were just talking about our old gym teacher!"
Fowler said he appreciated them getting behind not only him but Fury as well.
"Were grateful for any support. And the support we had tonight was fantastic," he added.
Fowler's fourth goal of the season was arguably his most spectacular. But the former Anfield legend was keeping a lid on talking it up after the game.
"I enjoy every goal whether they're two yards out or 30yds out and frankly that ones got us the three points. I'm not one of these players who love spectacular goals. If I'm being honest, as a forward I'd probably prefer little five yard tap-ins," he said.
"But the way we've played of late, any goal that wins us a game we'll take."
After enduring five rounds without a win, the momentum in the Fury camp has been building following two impressive draws in the last two weeks.
Fowler said the win had been coming after the team had been crucified following their 5-0 loss to Gold Coast in round two.
"I think we probably deserved that again tonight. It's a fantastic three points for us and we're all delighted with it. It's been a long time coming. I think it's been on the cards," he said.
"We've been unlucky probably the last three or four games but tonight we've managed to get the three points and that's what we're happy with, more than the goal."
