Adelaide's win in Newcastle last night pushed Fury back to the bottom of the pile and they must take something from the clash with Gold Coast United to avoid the spoon.

Much of the build up to the game has been about Gold Coast and their fight for a top two spot. Fowler is ignoring all that though.

"I don't think it's about Gold Coast. I think we just go out and play our game," Fowler said.

"Obviously we don't want to finish last and if the results to go the way of if we lose and Adelaide win then we can finish bottom, so obviously we've got that to play for and we've just got to worry about ourselves.

"No one wants to finish bottom of any table you're in.

"We've been at the bottom for most of the season but we've managed to claw out of that place and we don't want to go back to it. We want to finish as high in the table as we can and result wise I think we can finish as high as seventh."

Both Fowler and coach Ian Ferguson also want to send off vice-captain Robbie Middleby with a victory after the 34-year-old defender announced his retirement this week.

Fowler said a fitting finale for Middleby wasn't something that had been spoken about amongst the players, but that was probably because many didn't know until the terrier-like defender decided to go public.

"As you know with Robbie Middleby he's a quiet lad and I don't think too many of the boys knew what was happening, "Fowler said.

"He kept it quiet right up to the end, he's not said; 'do this for me or try and do this' because we want to go out and win anyway but the added incentiveĀ  is the fact is it's his last game and as much as he's respected by all the lads it would be nice to go out on a high."

Ferguson also paid tribute to his vice captain and hoped the Fury could keep extend its five game unbeaten streak at home as a final send-off.

"It would be nice to send him out a winner, spot on," Ferguson said.

"He's been a massive player for Australian Football over the years. What a contribution he's given.

"At 34-year old, we done a 20 minute run last night and he was up there amongst the leading boys and it was fantastic.

"It just shows you his attitude and his desire - he's still got that in him and he has obviously chose that this was the moment he wanted to leave the game and we respect that."

Ferguson has no doubt his squad will lift, not just for Middleby, but also for the chance to claim the series against the Gold Coast and the Queensland Nickel Cup.

The Fury coach knows the battle with be tough though as North Queensland blue collar workers take on the star studded squad from the Glitter Strip.

"They're a quality team. Up front is where they're more dangerous," Ferguson added.

"Smeltz has got something like 19 goals. He's going to be hard to contain but we did it the last game.

"I watched a game the other day there and they move the ball well, one orĀ  two touch with Caravella in there and Charlie Miller and Culina in there so they're going to be a handful for us."
