It’s understood that yesterday was the deadline set by DC United for the deal to be finalised.

It’s believed the Brazilian left the A-League champions without a transfer fee after signing a one year contract with Melbourne last year.

"We are very pleased to have concluded a deal to have Fred join D.C. United," said DC Technical Director Dave Kasper on the club’s website today.

"He is coming off an outstanding season in Australia, where he was instrumental in Melbourne's terrific season, and we are excited about his 10 years of top level playing experience in Brazil.”

The MLS club has not released details of Fred’s contract.

“He will be an excellent fit with our style of play, and we look forward to his immediate availability for the CONCACAF Champions' Cup and for the start of the MLS regular season,” added Kasper.

At present, Fred is training with his new club in Guadalajara, Mexico and will be available for DC’s return match with CD Guadalajara in the semi-finals of the CONCACAF Champions' Cup this Tuesday (April 3).

Victory was unavailable for comment. The club kicks off its A-League pre-season this Monday (April 2).
