Fremantle City Football Club are the latest expansion bid to launch their candidacy for an A-league licence.

The driving aspects behind their bid will be increased opportunities for West Australian youth, and the creation of a local derby between Fremantle and Perth Glory.

"No A-League Football Club derby rivalry in Western Australia has ever existed," the bid's website stated.

"With only 15 A-League games for W.A football fans to enjoy live each season, why should you be behind the rest of the country?

"Why aren’t you given the same opportunities to watch A-League games live for at least half the year?

Fremantle has a metro population of just over 25,000 people, making it one of the smallest bids launched so far.

However, Fremantle City will be looking to recreate the success of AFL club Fremantle Dockers, who have attracted an average crowd of 38,000 people per-match this season, in a region with few professional sporting teams.

"Which A-League Club gives the opportunity for local grass-roots community football clubs to share in the positive financial and other benefits in being formally (and legally) part of the A-League Club?", the club's bid continues.

"Fremantle City Football Club will. It’s time to get a Freo team in the A-League and drive benefits down to the local grass-roots community football clubs."
