“Through a friend I was introduced to a player scout,” the goalkeeper said.

“He was on a holiday in Australia and my friend said do you want to come down to a training session.

"The scout took the session and watched it, and he said to me that day, 'There’s a spot opening at Cardiff, would you like to come on trial?' Within three or four days I was in Cardiff.

"It happened really quickly, to be honest.

Cogman looks up to the likes of Socceroo shot-stopper Ryan, but he's enjoying working with Neil Etheridge and Alex Smithies at Cardiff City Stadium.

“I’ve always tried to be my own player when I’m on the pitch,” he said.

“But, especially in the Premier League, Mat Ryan, Hugo Lloris and even the keepers at Cardiff, I really enjoy watching them.

“They’re really good to be able to take bits from their game, and to be closer and in person they’re really good and willing to give out tips.”

The keeper headed back to Australia on March 17 when football came to a crashing halt thanks to the coronavirus.

He is hoping is to return to Britain this month as the pandemic eases to continue his development at Cardiff.

“At the moment the plan is if there’s no two week isolation in the UK, then I’ll come back late June for the July 1 restart,” Cogman said.

“But if there is two weeks I’ll look to go back in mid-June. The club’s booking it all so it’s just whenever they say really.

"I’m really excited to get back.”
