CREWE midfielder David Vaughan is set to join Real Sociedad after the clubs agreed an undisclosed fee.
The 24-year-old flew to Spain for talks with Sociedad manager Chris Coleman last weekend and the deal is now tied up, subject to the Wales international completing a medical.
And Vaughan told Crewe's official website, www.crewealex.premiumtv.co.uk: "I am really pleased to get a move like this.
"It did come as a bit of a shock because it was so out of the blue, but I am really looking forward to it."
WEST BROM manager Tony Mowbray has told out-of-favour striker Nathan Ellington he can still have a future at The Hawthorns.
Ellington has found himself behind Kevin Phillips, Craig Beattie, and on-loan Ishmael Miller in the strikeforce pecking order with Mowbray having also gone public on plans to sign yet more goalscorers.
But Mowbray said: "Strikers are brought in to create competition and hopefully that will help Nathan raise his game and score goals."
STOKE are "very close" to completing the signing of Senegal midfielder Salif Diao, according to his agent Charles Collymore.
Diao made 27 appearances for the Potters last season after initially signing on loan from Liverpool and Collymore believes he is ready to sign a permanent deal at the Britannia Stadium.
"As far as I am concerned Stoke are definitely the front-runners and, I think, very close," Collymore told the Sentinel.
"Salif had a fantastic season last year and Stoke have got off to a fantastic start this season and Salif wants to be part of that."
ROCHDALE manager Keith Hill has signed Peterborough defender Guy Branston on a two-month loan deal.
The 28-year-old centre-half has yet to feature for the Posh this season but has made over 250 appearances in his career, scoring 19 goals.
Branston has been handed the number 25 shirt at Spotland and is likely to make his debut in Saturday's trip to Hereford.
NOTTS COUNTY striker Jason Lee has been hit by a shock three-game suspension.
The ban comes after the Football Association investigated a complaint about Lee made by Brentford following the 1-1 draw at Meadow Lane on Saturday.
Lee, who was booked 18 times last season but never sent off, must start the suspension immediately, meaning he will be ruled out of the Magpies' weekend trip to Darlington.
He will also be forced to miss home fixtures with Morecambe and Leyton Orient.
SOUTHEND defender Che Wilson has put pen to paper on a new one-year contract at Roots Hall.
The full-back, who lost his place in the Shrimpers' first team last season and was farmed out on loan to Brentford and Rotherham, is back in the starting line-up due to Steven Hammell's injury absence.
He was offered new terms by manager Steve Tilson over the summer and has now committed himself to the club as they attempt to bounce back from relegation.
"I'm glad in the end to be staying at Southend," he said.
