EXCLUSIVE: North Queensland Fury chairman Don Matheson will happily enjoy a post-match beer with Gold Coast counterpart Clive Palmer tomorrow night with the Townsville outfit delighted at the welcome mat being laid out by their hosts.
Tempers became frayed between the A-League new boys recently when a scheduled meeting between the clubs in Cairns was shelved and led to angry exchanges through the media.
But there has between a thaw in relations since - and while Matheson expects his players to be fired up for battle on the pitch, he isn't expecting any fireworks off it.
Speaking to au.fourfourtwo.com today, Matheson said Gold Coast had been very helpful in making the trip as comfortable as possible for Fury.
"We are looking forward to it. To be fair, they (Gold Coast) see the value in getting along and they have gone out of their way in trying to help," he said.
"We've got a great deal on accommodation and they are laying on buses for us to get around. "They have been very, very hospitable. There will be a derby rivalry but it's good to co-operate."
As for matters on the pitch Matheson says he is happy with the progress being made, despite injuries hampering efforts to field a settled side.
Triallists have featured prominently so far with the club as yet unable to put out its strongest side.
"At the end of the day you're remembered for the results in the league not for what you've done in pre-season," said Matheson.
Robbie Fowler will once again be missing from the Fury side for tomorrow's clash while the hosts will be without their marquee capture Jason Culina, the Socceroos midfielder suffering from a hamstring niggle.
