Perth were forced to play with just nine men for the final 25 minutes of the clash after red cards to Naum Sekulovski and Brent Griffiths, but the Fury could not turn their numerical advantage into a victory.

Hughes rescued a point for Fury after equalising on 80 minutes but there would be no winner for the Townsville club.

"It's a little bit of a story of our season so far," Hughes said. "When we're on top we don't seem to punish teams and put our chances away.

"Maybe we never moved it quick enough. When they had nine men we played it into their hands, we could've got it wide."

North Queensland coach Franz Straka echoed Hughes' sentiments, admitting he was frustrated and disappointed by the result.

"The question is how many chances do we need from the game? It's really disappointing," he said.

"Maybe it's not composure on the ball."

North Queensland's next match is a journey to south-east Queensland to face Gold Coast United on Wednesday.

Speaking about the upcoming game, Hughes said: "We need three points now, we need to start as quick as possible because the games are running out."

Straka added: "We'll keep going. I'm very optimistic."
