FORMER North Queensland Fury player Grant Smith has put his return to the UK to good use by establishing a match-worn football memorabilia website for charity.
Scottish-born Smith - who played briefly for the Fury in 2009 and is now residing back in Scotland playing for Airdrie United - wanted to leverage his contacts in the game for a charitable cause.
“The concept of the site is to get top players from Premiership in England and Scotland to give me their signed boots and they are auctioned on the site with a significant percentage going towards various charities or a charity of the player’s choice,” said Smith.
“The difference is that the boots have significance. For example, hat-trick boots, debut, or last game for a club. Jack Wilshere has signed his match-winning boots from the Arsenal versus Barcelona first-leg of the UEFA Champions League where he won Man of the Match.”
Alongside Arsenal wonder kid Wilshere, the likes of Everton’s Phil Jagielka and Phil Neville have all already participated, with some big names in the pipeline.
