NORTH Queensland Fury's hopes of survival are poised for a major boost today with Townsville councillors expected to approve a cash injection of $1million over the next five years.
A dark cloud has hung over the club in recent weeks with a big effort to secure fresh investment for the franchise.
However, Townsville City Council is expected to agree an injection of funds today with a further $1.5m to be found from the private sector as Fury look to put in place a new broad-based ownership structure over the coming weeks.
''We are looking to spread payments over a five-year period and think it will give them great certainty into the future," Mayor Les Tyrell told the Townsville Bulletin.
''There is no doubt that council has responsibility to ensure that the Fury has every chance of succeeding."
While the contracts of current players are thought to be safe, there is still much speculation surrounding the future of marquee star Robbie Fowler.
The ex Liverpool man is currently back in England on an end of season break. He still has a year of his existing Fury deal to run but recently told the BBC he would be back at Fury if the club survived its current crisis.
