NORTH Queensland Fury have signed Ugandan international hitman Eugene Sseppuya for the coming season, the club confirmed overnight.
The 27-year-old striker joins Fury from Lithuanian side FK Sudova after experience playing for clubs in both Serbia and the USA.
Sseppuya is an out-and-out striker with an impressive strike-rate, scoring a goal every 114 minutes.
His strong build and instinctive skills inside the 18-yard box will complement the other forward options within the Fury squad, said the club.
Sseppuya arrived in Townsville on Saturday and passed a stringent medical examination and it is hoped Sseppuya will be available for Fury's first home match of the season against Sydney FC onĀ August 14.
Fury's head of football operations Robbie Middleby spoke of his delight at finally securing the signature of their prime target.
"This year we play 30 fixtures and it's important we have a quality strike-force who can cover all eventualities," he said.
"Eugene came highly recommended to us from our overseas contacts and from our head coach, Franz Straka.
"He is a different type of player to Dyron (Daal), Chris (Payne) and David (Williams) and his inclusion should help the team score the number of goals needed to have a successful season."
Fury coach Franz Straka added: "This is a very good signing for Fury.
"Eugene will provide more competition and further options for us up front, and hopefully we'll see this translate into more goals scored by the team this season."
After a 30 hour flight from Belgrade and a thorough medical on landing, Sseppuya said; "I'm very happy to have finally signed for North Queensland Fury.
"From what I've seen and heard, the A-League is a very good standard; physically demanding and has a growing reputation around the world.
"As a striker you like to score goals, but if I can also assist others to find the back of the net, then this can only be a good thing for the team."
