Edds, 29, joins the Fury from English League One club Tranmere Rovers who he made 42 appearances for last season scoring four goals, before being released in May.

The midfielder, who left Australia for England in 1997, has also spent time at MK Dons, Bradford City, Swindon Town and Nottingham Forest during his career.

Fury football operations manager Robbie Middleby told the Townsville Bulletin that Edds' experience will be invaluable for their youthful squad.

''He's an Aussie boy coming back, which is a massive thing for us, especially in that position that he plays that holding midfield role,'' Middleby said.

''I just think his experience, where he's been and being Australian (makes him a great fit at the Fury), I think it's great that we're the ones to get him back in the country and at the right age.

''We've got a lot of young players in the team, but with his experience what he's done it's tremendous for us.''

The Sydney-born midfielder's signing takes North Queensland's roster to 16, but further additions might not be far away with three international players current trialling with the Townsville club.

The players are Chinese striker Zhan Yu, Korean Yoo Wook-Jin and Kenyan forward Francis Ouma.

Fury assistant coach Stuart McLaren commented the trio will be given a chance to win a contract.

''They are players that have been brought to our attention more than us hunting them, but they fit with the type of players that we might be after,'' he said.

''They will be here until the end of the week, but if we like what we see then we might keep them around for a bit more.''

The trio may get a chance to impress when the Fury take on North Queensland Razorbacks in a trial match tonight at Townsville Sports Reserve.

Edds is expected to arrive in Townsville with his wife and three children on July 1.
