Griffiths worked his way through the ranks at Blackburn Rovers and featured in the senior training squad alongside Fury marquee player Robbie Fowler in the UK.

He'll make his debut for Fury in Darwin tonight against Adelaide United who he played for while on a four-match contract as an injury replacement player in February this year.

Fury coach Ian Ferguson saw Griffiths play against his side in Rockhampton when North Queensland took on  Central Coast Mariners.

Griffiths played just 25 minutes before suffering a minor hamstring strain, but it was enough to impress Ferguson.

""He's big, he's strong, he's good in the air, he's good with his feet - he's got a lot of good attributes," Ferguson said.

"I heard a lot of good things about him and then I heard he'd signed with the Mariners but I spoke to Lawrie (McKinna) and he said they hadn't signed him, so we decided to make our move.

"I spoke to Archie Knox about him and he had a good report on him - he'd worked with him at Blackburn.

"From what I saw in the game I thought he had something and he caused us a lot of problems and then he had to come off after 25 minutes but up until then I thought he was the best player on the park.

"He's been at Blackburn and came up through the levels - you don't get to stay at a club like Blackburn if you're not a good player."

Griffiths views the one-year deal as an opportunity to show what he's worth.

"I really enjoyed my time at Blackburn but at the end of the season my deal was up and North Queensland came up with a contract that worked for me," he said.

"Ideally I want to play as much as possible and it was a choice of either playing lower divisions in the UK or looking at the Hyundai A-League.

"I've scored a few goals from the midfield and I'd like to be doing that at Fury, but if the coach wants me to play a more defensive role then I'm happy with that as well."
