The three players have agreed two-year deal with the Townsville-based side and Matheson is delighted.

The trio will be joined by another ex Sydney FC man in New Zealand forward Jeremy Brockie.

Matheson told au.fourfourtwo.com today: "We're very happy to welcome these players into our club and I think it demonstrates that we are determined to be competitive when we kick off next season.

"We like Robbie's experience and leadership and feel he is the sort of tremendously good team person that fits in with the chemistry and the culture we want here.

"He will work well with Jade (North) in the backline.

"We've seen Santalab score some of the best goals in the A-League and again he fits the brand we want, he's brave and takes on players.

"And as for Jacob Timpano, (coach) Ian Ferguson reckons he is going to mature into one of Australia's quality centre-backs."

There is still some way to go before North Queensland has its inaugural squad in place but Matheson doesn't think fans will have to wait too long before further new faces are unveiled.

He said: "Hopefully we'll have 14 signings by Christmas, there's four or five opportunities for kids from the state leagues."

The chairman also revealed that it won't be an all-Australian line-up either.

He said: "Negotiations are underway with a few overseas boys."
