NORTH Queensland Fury boss Ian Ferguson is refusing to throw in the finals towel despite the 3-0 defeat by Phoenix in wild and windy Wellington.
North Queensland couldn't convert their first half chances and eventually paid the price.
Ferguson said the was no point in dwelling on the loss and pointed to back to back home games as a possible tonic for his team's chances.
"We won't throw in the towel, we haven't yet and we've got two massive games at home now," Ferguson said.
"We were alright in the first and dominated play until about half way through the first half, but we broke down in the second half and couldn't defend the crosses Wellington were putting across us."
Ufuk Talay was solid in his return to the playing squad, but didn't have the fitness to carry him past the 61st minute.
"Talay was good and his class showed but he just didn't have the legs after such a long time out," Ferguson said.
"They were all reasonably good in the first half but we just couldn't get it done in the second.
"The biggest disappointment for me again, and I keep saying it to the boys, is that we can't defend set pieces. We lost two goals again from set pieces and it hurts us. It kills us."
Fury now return home for clashes against Brisbane Roar and Newcastle Jets.
