NORTH Queensland Fury skipper Ufuk Talay has announced that he will retire at the end of the season but is set to remain at the club in a coaching role.
“This was always going to be a very difficult decision to make," he told the club's official website.
“To be paid to do something you love makes me a very lucky person, and the people I’ve met and the places I’ve seen along the way have all helped shaped the footballer and person I’ve become.
“Hopefully Fury will continue long into the future and my aim is to play an active role in not only the club but developing the next generation of football talent throughout the region."
Former team-mate, now Fury Football Operations Manager, Robbie Middleby said: “I’ve been where Ufuk is today and I know it’s a very hard decision to make.
“His contribution to the Fury has been outstanding and the work he does for North Queensland Football and State League side, the NQ Razorbacks, demonstrates his passion for the sport in this region.
“The club hopes to continue its association with Ufuk into the future, as we believe he has just as much to offer off the park, as he did on it over his 20 years as a professional footballer.”
Fury Chief Executive, Rabieh Krayem added: “Ufuk is has been a great servant to Australian football and particularly during some challenging times here at the North Queensland Fury.
“As much as he is respected as a player, he is also highly regarded as a football ambassador and for his coaching ability.
“We have big plans for football throughout North Queensland and we see Ufuk playing an important role in developing and nurturing footballers in the region and for the club."
