ADELAIDE United defender Iain Fyfe has been cleared of any serious injury in the wake of his crunching clash with Shane Smeltz in the draw against Gold Coast United.
While he has some slight bruising and swelling, MRI scans on Fyfe's left knee and ankle earlier today revealed no significant damage following a studs up challenge from Smeltz in the 41st minute of Saturday night's match at Skilled Park.
With the Reds heading into a crucial string of three games in nine days, starting with a game at home against Central Coast Mariners on Friday night, the results of Fyfe's scan is a relief for coach Aurelio Vidmar.
Fyfe has played and started in all but one of the Reds' 20 matches so far this season with his partnership in the heart of United's defence with former Sydney FC team mate Mark Rudan proving formidable.
The pair kept at bay a Gold Coast United side which had scored 32 goals before Saturday's match before Fyfe left the field early in the second half.
Adelaide United's medical staff will closely monitor and review Fyfe's progress in the coming days, with a decision to be made on whether he will be cleared to tackle the Mariners on Friday.
Reds midfielder Paul Reid made a successful return to the pitch after getting through an hour with the Reds' Youth Team yesterday, and Kristian Sarkies and Alemao are now also over their injury concerns.
