The goalkeeper played through an ankle injury in Sunday's 3-1 A-League win over Wellington Phoenix at Hindmarsh Stadium.

Galekovic was at risk of being a late withdrawal on Sunday after appearing to limp in the warm-up. He was limited in drills before leaving the ground for treatment.

The 31-year-old played through the pain barrier and was at his supreme best to produce a double save to thwart Phoenix teenager Tyler Boyd's penalty moments before the final whistle.

Kosmina confirmed the shot-stopper was battling an old ankle problem.

"He's got a bit of a dodgy ankle he hurt a couple of years ago and every now and then it just comes back a little bit sore," Kosmina said.

"He tweaked it at training on Saturday and it's probably had a little bit to do with his workload over the last couple of weeks as well.

"But otherwise he's pretty good and we'll get over that through the course of the week - it shouldn’t cause any problems."

The former Sydney FC coach applauded Galekovic's penalty stop which saw the 'keeper dive to his right and save the ball one-handed, before springing up to block the rebound from Boyd that was destined for the net.

The miraculous saves brought the Hindmarsh crowd to their feet and earned a rousing reception from team-mates.

"Great way to finish a game. You want to finish a game on a high and you couldn’t ask for anything better than that," Kosmina said.

"First save was great, second save was pure reflex. He spread himself like good keepers do and I feel sorry for the young boy (Boyd) that missed it, but I'm glad we had Eugene in there because it was a great save."

Galekovic only returned to Adelaide on Tuesday after featuring twice for the Socceroos in qualifying for the 2013 East Asian Cup.

The Reds skipper was thrust back into training only a day later in scorching conditions.

Following a fortnight with the national team, Kosmina suggested his number one custodian was due for a lighter week ahead of a busy schedule that sees the Reds play three games in 10 days.

"I think he's glad to get back into his own bed. Another four or five days here at home and I think he will be nice and refreshed for the game next Friday (against Western Sydney)," Kosmina said.

"If you look at all the blokes that were away with the Socceroos they've complained about various levels of fatigue and being a goalkeeper is no different.

"He had lots of hard work and played two games in four days. I know he never had much to do, but the fact is you got to go through the process.

"You got to warm up, you got to be out there and as goalkeeper when you're playing behind a team that is playing so dominant you have to stay switched on mentally, and even that in itself can be fatiguing."
