After a goalless 90 minutes and extra-time Gallacher saved penalties from Dons skipper Scott Severin and Richard Foster as the Pars won the shoot-out 4-2.

"It's absolutely fantastic, the supporters have waited a long time for something like this, we've not been performing too well this season," said the goalkeeper.

"I'm over the moon. There's no pressure on goalkeepers, I don't think," he told Sky Sports 1.

"It was more guesswork and it worked out, so I'll stick to that! The right team won on the night."

Graham Bayne scored the winning kick and said afterwards: "Once Paul saved for the second time I knew if I managed to hit the back of the net we were through and it was a fantastic feeling to see the ball go in.

"A few of us had been practising penalties yesterday just in case."

Pars boss Jim McIntyre added: "I was very, very nervous, a bag of nerves on the sidelines.

"But I've got the praise my team they were absolutely superb, they were out on their feet in extra-time but kept going."

A visibly devastated Jimmy Calderwood - whose Aberdeen side threw away last season's semi-final against Queen of the South - admitted his side did not deserve to progress.

"We've got to look at ourselves because again we've let the club and the supporters down.

"Again we didn't play well in a very important game. That is two massive games we've let the club down in."
