Palmer has laid the blame squarely for Sunday's fiasco at Stadiums Queensland, who run Skilled Park, after the pitch became water-logged forcing the match to be called off after only 19 minutes.

United management claim the playing surface could not handle the incessant rain and needs to be maintained better. It is understood, they have lodged an official complaint with stadium management.

And the Gold Coast Bulletin claims Palmer will throw the gates open again if Stadiums Queensland accept culpability for Sunday's abandonment and waive the bill for the game, estimated to be around $200,000.

"I can't thank people enough for coming," Palmer said. "We had 23,000 register for tickets and despite the weather, nearly 11,000 came and it was just a shame they didn't get to enjoy a great match. The pitch didn't help and that's something that needs to be addressed."

United CEO Clive Mensink reiterated the club's stance that Stadiums Queensland's maintenance of the Skilled Park playing surface was to blame for Sunday's fiasco.

"If the pitch had been fully grassed, the game would not have been called off and people who braved the rain would have had an enjoyable and worthwhile experience," he said.

"I don't think we've been damaged by the episode but it might have damaged the reputation of Stadiums Queensland."

Mensink added the club would enter into talks with Stadiums Queensland on improving the Skilled Park surface in the future.

"We're in discussions with them at the moment," he said. "We don't want a repeat of what happened on Sunday.

"The pitch has been poor for a while now and when you compare it to other pitches in Queensland, it suffers a lot by comparison.

"It's got to a time now where something needs to be done. It was also bad at times last year but this is a lot worse."
