Alex Gersbach has been called into the Socceroos line up to replace defender Brad Smith who injured his hamstring in the 3-2 win over Saudi Arabia.
Lleft back Gersbach, 20, who plays for Rosenborg in Norway, will link up with the team in Russia ahead of the Confederations Cup later this month.
Socceroos boss Ange Postecoglou said: “It’s a shame for Brad that he picked up that minor hamstring strain against Saudi Arabia."
“It is not a serious injury but the recovery time required for Brad to get back onto the pitch made it difficult for him to be ready for the bulk of this period and he is better off returning to the UK to start his rehab.
“Alex has done well for us when called into the squad previously and he will slot straight into the team when we arrive in Russia.”
