PERTH Glory has revealed they will be scouting the 2011 Asian Cup for talent with Indian star striker Sunil Chhetri in their sights as they set about rebuilding for next season.
Glory director of football Dave Mitchell is in Qatar for the Asian Cup and he'll be closely monitoring Chhetri when India face Australia on Monday.
"I'll be looking at some players and Chhetri is one I've had my eye on for a while," Mitchell told The West Australian.
"He's a big name in India and a very good player. I was looking at him last year but it didn't work out."
Chhetri, 26, is the only player in India's Asian Cup squad currently plying their trade overseas, with MLS club Kansas City Wizards.
But the Indian, who joined the Wizards after a successful trial in early 2010, is yet to make a league appearance for the club.
Glory has already released Michael Baird, Andrija Jukic and Aleks Vrteski from contracts ahead of next season as they try to rebuild after a disappointing 2010/2011 campaign.
