DAVE Mitchell is adamant Perth Glory's finals pursuit remains on track and believes their weekend pounding by Melbourne might prove the 'slap in the face' they needed.
Glory's 6-2 loss to Victory was the club's heaviest of the season but they have the chance to rebound against Adelaide United tonight.
"I spoke to the players and it was a bit of a slap in the face for us and probably what we needed," said Mitchell. "There are a lot of disappointed players and they are desperate to rectify it on Tuesday in Adelaide."
With five games to play in the home and away season, Perth are currently sixth on the A-League table, just one point ahead of both Central Coast Mariners and Brisbane Roar.
"It's a big game and Adelaide are also chasing their tails," said Mitchell. "It's a game the boys are focused on and we want to make sure we get something from this game."
In the two games between Perth and Adelaide this season both teams have recorded 1-0 wins. The Reds were victorious in round one while Perth got the three points back in October.
"The thing about Adelaide is they are very hard to score against so you want to make sure you score first because if they score first they defend very soundly," said Mitchell.
After missing the clash against Melbourne, Steven McGarry has been added to Perth's squad.
The 30 year-old has been released from Scottish side Motherwell and the attacking midfielder is now keen to launch his A-League career.
Mitchell added: "It's good to have Steven in the team, he will add another dimension to our squad."
