Ex-Wollongong Wolves Reid who scored one goal and took a penalty during the club's National Soccer League grand final win over Perth in 2000, had been in negotiations with Mitchell to join the former enemy and play in the Glory's midfield this season.

But, at the last moment, Reid opted to sign with Adelaide United, forcing Mitchell to go back to the drawing board and find another player to bolster his side's midfield ranks.

"It was disappointing because he said he was going to come here, it was all agreed upon and everything, and at the last minute he did a backflip," said Mitchell on Wednesday.

"It's a scenario where you've got to take people at their word sometimes and if their word's not valued, then unfortunately you've got to suffer the consequences."

"It's annoying because he's been on the radar for a little while. It took a long time in negotiations and then it was all set to happen and it didn't, it does put you back a little bit."

"But, I'm sure he'll be heckled when he comes to Perth," Mitchell said.

The Glory coach was confident, however, that Amaral would receive his Australian working visa in the near future, saying the Brazilian midfielder could be a chance to play in the opening match of the season against Adelaide on August 17.

"I think it's in the pipeline," Mitchell said. "It's going to happen sooner rather than later, so hopefully it's going to come through.

"Hopefully by the end of the week something will happen, that's what we're looking at.

"I asked him to keep training over there (in Indonesia where he played previously) so he has been training.

"Match fitness is totally different, so I would expect he'd be able to play at least half a game, if not 60, 70 minutes, which is a good part and hopefully the sooner he get here the sooner he will fit into the side."

Mitchell said he would be keeping faith with his front pairing of Argentine Adrian Trinidad and Ivory Coast-born Eugene Dadi for the Pre-Season Cup clash with Adelaide on Saturday, saying the pair needed to develop match fitness ahead of the season proper, despite struggling during the club's 1-0 loss to Melbourne last weekend.

But Mitchell said he would have to use several younger players against Adelaide to cover for injured attacking midfielder James Robinson and suspended left back Dino Djulbic, who received two yellow cards during the Glory two Pre-Season Cup outings so far.
