MELBOURNE Victory defender Adrian Leijer was at a loss to explain his side's inability to find the back of the net after their third goalless game in a row following Saturday's 0-0 draw at Newcastle.
Leijer admitted he was happy to keep a fourth straight clean sheet but said the final third was a concern after collecting just three points during a run of three consecutive 0-0 draws against Wellington, North Queensland and now Newcastle.
"As a defender that's what we want, but the most important thing is winning games and we're not doing that which is quite disappointing," he said.
"We've got the players to score goals, but we're just not finding the back of the net.
"We had a number of chances tonight, we probably should've won the game but if you don't score goals, you don't win games."
Leijer also said he could not wait for Victory's next match against new city rivals Melbourne Heart.
"It's a massive game," he said. "It's probably the most anticipated game of the A-League season so far and hopefully we can kickstart a good rivalry with them."
The game is fixtured to be played next Saturday, but could be re-scheduled due to the AFL Grand Final replay taking place on the same day.
Newcastle Jets defender Ljubo Milicevic said he was disappointed to not reward the 8,652 fans who turned out at EnergyAustralia Stadium with a victory.
"We didn't lose and we didn't concede a goal again but you want to win at home with a good turnout tonight by the fans but unfortunately we couldn't repay them with a win," he said.
Milicevic continued he was delighted to have new owner Nathan Tinkler on board at the NSW club.
"It's been fantastic. We're really happy he's come on board," he said.
"We spoke with Ken (Edwards, interim executive chairman) during the week and things look really positive and hopefully in the future the Newcastle Jets will be a force again."
Newcastle's next match is not until October 16 away to Brisbane Roar.
