Queensland Nickel - recently bought by Palmer were this morning revealed as Fury's front of shirt sponsor for the coming season...with a logo almost identical to Palmer's Mineralogy company logo on the front of Gold Coast United's shirts.

But Fury CEO Dean Hassall today said it was fantastic for the club to have the backing of a corporate sponsor that had been an integral part of the North Queensland business community for many years.

And Fury Chairman Don Matheson said the sponsorship was a win-win for the region.

"North Queensland Fury is extremely proud to be associated with Queensland Nickel," said Matheson. "The company's new owner Clive Palmer has often expressed his goal to see football grow in Australia and with Queensland Nickel's support we hope to do our bit in North Queensland.

''When he had an opportunity, from a local economy's point of view, for him to pick up Yabulu the way he has certainly inspired a lot of stability in the community. "

''Not only that, but for him to throw an opportunity to partner our side with Queensland Nickel, we think is sensational.''

Matheson said he hoped the relationship would go beyond the sponsorship deal and that the workforce at Queensland Nickel would embrace Fury as their team.

"This is more than just a business name on our jersey," he said. "I see it as another opportunity to strengthen the sense of community we are trying to build at the and I hope that's something everyone at Queensland Nickel will embrace as well.

"It's very exciting with our first match as a Hyundai A-League club just days away at Dairy Farmers Stadium against Sydney FC this Saturday."
