Granada coach Fabri Gonzalez believes "bad luck" caused the incident that led to his side's Primera Division game against Real Mallorca being abandoned last night after an official was left bleeding having been struck by an object from the crowd.
Referee Clos Gomez called a halt to the match at Los Carmenes stadium just after the hour mark after one of his assistants, Aguilar Rodriguez, was struck by an umbrella after lining up for a Mallorca corner, with the linesman's cheek immediately bloodied.
The umbrella appeared to come from the home fans, who minutes earlier had been celebrating their side turning a 1-0 deficit into a 2-1 advantage.
Gonzalez told Europa Press today: "It was an act of really bad luck in every sense, because the poor kid had the handle in his hand, and it seems that he let go without wanting to. The club have complied with all the regulations, nobody has illegally gone onto the pitch or come in with illegal objects."
The LFP (Spanish football league) announced today that the Spanish Football Federation's (RFEF) competitions committee will be investigating the incident and will then take the appropriate action.
When asked about possible repercussions, Fabri said: "I don't know what action they will take because I haven't had time to think about it yet.
"I know that we have very little time until Christmas and a huge amount of games, including two Copa del Rey matches against Real Sociedad, and I don't know if there is any week to play these minutes."
Granada, who are playing in the Primera Division for the first time in 35 years, are currently joint-bottom of the standings on nine points.
