Recently called-up Socceroo Craig Goodwin says he is ready to show his attacking wing play for Ange Postecoglou in next month’s qualifier against Thailand.
The former Adelaide speedster's off-season move to Holland has taken the 24-year-old's game go to another level.
He has missed only one game for his Dutch side this season and was involved in Sparta Rotterdam's 3-1 win over PSV in the Dutch Cup overnight.
Goodwin was in the Socceroos sqaud for their draws against Saudi Arabia and Japan although he didn’t play.
The winger said he was now ready to do business for Australia when they take on Thailand in next month’s crucial World Cup Qualifier.
“I’m there whenever Ange is going to call me for action,” he said. “I just have to bide my time till I get a chance and show what I can do.
"For me in my game style I’m a wide player, I generally play in the left wing. I don’t look at the tactics and go I should be in there. For me it’s about biding my time and hopefully I can do my best when I am in there.”
“Each time I go in there I’m learning more and more and each time it’s giving me more hunger and desire to get out on the field and get some minutes and help the Socceroos get to the Wold Cup.”
Many pundits criticised Australia’s narrow approach following their 1-1 home draw against Japan in the previous qualifier, but Goodwin was adamant Postecoglou’s tactics were justified.
“He is the coach and he knows exactly he is doing, so you can’t really criticize him either,” he said. “We won the Asian Cup in 2015. Since he’s taken over we’ve got a clear vision of where he wants Australian football to go which is fantastic.”
“Ange has his tactics set up very well and he analyses every game and how we are going to play and he has a clear game plan in his head.
"For me we dominated possession in that game and Japan who some people would say are that the best team in Asia were sitting in their own half for 70 minutes plus in their game.
“We had all the ball, perhaps we didn’t create as many as clear cut chances as we would have liked but tactics wise we held Japan. Besides one or two chances that we gave them they didn’t really create anything. I thought the tactics in that game was quite good.”
“Although we weren’t at our best we certainly did so enough to pick up maximum points especially in the second half against Japan the boys played fantastic and could’ve definitely come away with a win there.”
