Craig Goodwin scored one goal and provided the assist for another as Sparta Rotterdam defeated Heerenveen 3-1 in the Dutch Eredivisie overnight.
However, Goodwin’s 69th minute strike came with a touch of luck, with Heerenveen shot-stopper Erwin Mulder largely to blame.
Goodwin’s free-kick from the top corner of the box was fumbled by Mulder, before allowing it to roll through his legs to make it 3-1.
Earlier, Aussie Kenny Dougall sent in a low cross for Stijn Spierings to make it 1-1 on 15 minutes.
Four minutes later, Goodwin broke down the left flank and provided a pass for Zakaria El Azzouzi to make it 2-1.
Goodwin netted his third goal for Sparta since his move from Adelaide United in the second half.
In Denmark’s Superliga, Awer Mabil continued his bright form helping Esbjerg to their first win of the campaign, 3-0 over AaB,
Mabil played the full 90 minutes and had a first-half chance saved, before his interception led to the third goal.
Fellow Aussie Brent McGrath was an 84th minute substitute.
Also in Denmark, Chris Ikonomidis played a full game and Mustafa Amini put in 70 minutes as AGF drew 0-0 with Silkeborg.
Elsewhere, Ryan Edwards played 82 minutes for Partick Thistle while Golgol Mebrahtu put in a full shift for Mlada Boleslav.
