For the Cannons it was their first loss of the season.

Bill Damianos played a great ball through to Frankie Lagana to open up a one-on-one with the keeper only to fail with the final touch in the sixth minute.

In the 12th minute Damianos’s free kick outside the box almost put Oakleigh in the lead when his splendid attempt hit the front post to let Gully off the hook.

Shortly after Andy Vargas crossed a vicious in-swinging cross which brushed past the back post.

20 minutes in, Oakleigh’s Coach Stuart Munro made an early Substitution taking Adam Ewin off for Aristidis Drakos.

Vargas opened the scoring with his brilliance in the 23rd minute when Kristijan Ivesic played through to Vargas, who lobbed over the keeper to head in a fantastic solo effort.

Gully’s Coach Ian Dobson took Dragi Nastevski off for Kole Delev in the 24th minute.

Only after two minutes on the park, Delev was cautioned as the tempers grew on and off the field.

32 minutes in, Damianos crossed accurately to Juan Nilo on the back posted, who headed back into Stelios Drakos, only to squander the opportunity.

Ian Dobson was ejected from the field after his conduct was not tolerated by referee Lewis Giuseth.

Play was held up for a few minute when tempers rose, after John Munoz’s reckless challenge just outside the box was reviewed by the referee and assistant to earn Munoz a controversial yellow card.

Jeff Fleming and Ivesic received a caution shortly after for their tackles as the game seemed to rise in intensity.

Dobson tried to expose the right-hand side when he put Manny Muscat on, who dominated the flank.

In the 57th minute, Mile Medjedovic was sent off for a high dangerous tackle, which left Gully down a man.

Manny Muscat’s blistering speed gave him the opportunity to cross a fantastic ball to the inform Joel Nikolic who could not miss the open goals for a 2-0 lead in the 77th minute.

Oakleigh scored a consolation goal when Damianos’s amazing 40 yard strike, shot through to the back of the net in the 91st minute to close the game in Green Gully’s favour.
