After an SPL board meeting at Hampden today, the league confirmed Gretna's application to use Motherwell's Fir Park stadium next season still stood.

St Mirren and Dunfermline had raised objections that the First Division champions had not given assurances over plans to build a stadium with 6,000 seats for the following season.

But Muir insists planning permission and a construction timetable are in place for an improved stadium at Raydale Park, which currently has an official capacity of 2,200.

Muir said: "We knew the criteria, we met the criteria, we had it clarified.

"When this came up I felt there was nothing to answer. In football you are never 100% confident but I was confident enough to be at Fir Park today.

"We had a construction timetable and a construction firm. They are with the SPL.

"They know the floodlight system, the undersoil heating, they know when the drainage is going in, they know building times, they even know our capacity for a bad winter.

"If that had not been submitted I don't think we would have got approval. The SPL met with us to clarify everything.

"We are fully aware of the criteria for March 2008. If we don't fulfil that then there might be problems but knowing Gretna I think we will.

"We plan to have 6,000 seats by August of next year. Planning permission is there for the stadium at Raydale Park."

SPL secretary Iain Blair refused to rule out the prospect of Gretna playing at Fir Park for a second season.

But Muir said: "It's not an option we want. No matter how good the staff are at Motherwell it's not our intention to be here longer than one year."

Blair also felt there was no decision to be made over Gretna's application to share with Motherwell, which was approved in April.

He said: "We did deal with letters from St Mirren and Dunfermline concerning the situation with Gretna and Motherwell and I'll be writing back to both clubs.

"We will explain fully the various points that have been raised in the letters.

"But there is no change with the decision regarding Gretna, and Gretna will be playing at Fir Park next season."

St Mirren were made to upgrade their ground when they were promoted a year ago despite planning a move to a new stadium.

The Buddies spent £200,000 on improvements such as undersoil heating and will play at Love Street again next season before moving to a nearby stadium, which won planning permission last month.

Saints chairman Stewart Gilmour first raised the concerns as he felt Gretna had not supplied enough assurances over their construction plans.

But Gretna's application not only involves playing at a current SPL stadium but clearly includes outlines for building work.

Blair said: "We have made it very clear to Gretna they need a compliant stadium guaranteed by March 31, 2008.

"They have indicated they have plans in place to meet that deadline. We have had comprehensive documentation from Gretna.

"I'm not sure what St Mirren knew about what Gretna have written down.

"I'm absolutely certain the decision is the correct decision - it has been properly taken."
