DEPUTY goalkeeper Griffin McMaster says he is excited to make his first A-League appearance of the season when he fills in for the injured Liam Reddy.
A hamstring strain means Reddy won’t travel with the squad to Gosford to take on Central Coast Mariners, paving the way for McMaster to earn a start one year on from his debut.
The match is crucial in cementing Roar’s place in the finals but McMaster, who had a starring cameo at the end of last season, insists he won’t have any problems with nerves.
“No nerves, more excitement,” the 25-year-old gloveman said. “I’m pumped, I’m primed, I’m ready to go.
“I’ve only been in the game for five minutes and we start from zero on Saturday so it’s important that I do my best for the team, go out there and perform.”
McMaster had the full backing of coach Frank Farina to get the job done against the Mariners.
“When he stepped in last year when Liam broke his thumb, he did very well for us and I expect him to do the same when he comes in on the weekend,” Farina said.
“He’s been training hard, obviously playing in the youth league as well has been a great help this season.”
The former Mount Gravatt custodian will have his work cut out for him, with strike pair Matt Simon and Dylan Macallister returning from suspension to face Roar.
“They’re a very lethal partnership,” he said. “Matt Simon has had a very good season, so has Macallister.
“We haven’t kept a clean sheet for eight games or something so the first thing we’ve got to establish is getting a clean sheet.
“Central Coast are on fire. They’ve got players coming back and we’re going to have to really be up for it.”
