FORMER Johnny Warren Medallist and A-League golden boot winner Joel Griffiths is understood to be on the verge of a move to join A-League outfit Wellington Phoenix.
According to TVNZ, the Nix are in negotiations with the 31-year-old Socceroo who has just finished his duties with Chinese Super League club Beijing Guoan for the 2010 season.
Guoan are believed to have given Griffiths permission to discuss terms with Wellington, with the Australian in need of gametime.
Griffiths will be a 10-match guest player and become available from January, should the deal go ahead.
It is understood, Griffiths and Phoenix boss Ricki Herbert will meet in Newcastle this weekend to finalise a short-term deal.
