MELBOURNE Victory appears to have beaten city rivals Melbourne Heart in the race for the signature of Brisbane Roar's Costa Rican striker Jean Carlos Solorzano.
Solorzano, who scored 11 goals for Brisbane on loan from LD Alajuelense last season, has been the target of both Melbourne clubs this week.
But according to Melbourne newspaper The Age, Victory have won the race for Solorzano's services, although the club's football operations manager Gary Cole refused to definitively confirm the acquisition.
Heart football operations manager John Didulica, though, conceded defeat in the race to sign Solorzano.
“We had a certain value on him and we have decided not to pursue him,'' Didulica told The Age.
On Friday, Heart chief executive officer Scott Munn had tweeted: “Can't justify paying big loan fee and salary.”
It is understood, Victory see Solorzano as the perfect replacement for Europe-bound Robbie Kruse.
Victory's Costa Rican connection, with Carlos Hernandez and Marvin Angulo currently on their books, is also believed to have played a role in sealing the deal.
