MELBOURNE Heart have firmly denied media reports claiming they have signed Sydney FC marquee star John Aloisi on a $120,000 a season, two year deal.
The World Game this afternoon claimed the club had sealed a deal with the former Socceroo legend whose penalty took Australia to the 2006 World Cup.
But tonight the club issued a statement denying the story.
"Despite recent media reports linking Aloisi to Melbourne Heart FC, the club rejects any assertions that it has finalised an agreement for the 2006 World Cup star," said the statement. "John Aloisi has been, and continues to be, a great player.
"We have had discussions with John's management, but we agreed that we would not pursue the matter with his management until after John had concluded his commitments with Sydney FC.
"We respect his position entirely. Melbourne Heart FC have taken this position with all players still actively involved in the
Hyundai A-League Finals Series."
A source close to the club added: "It's no secret we have been talks with him but he has not signed."
